Builder residue is the other thing worth setting expectations on before we start. The spring wash, and why the date moves
Wait for the last hard freeze. A slab washed in March holds water down in its pore structure, and one night back below freezing pushes that water outward as it expands, which is the same mechanism as the salt damage we are washing off in the first place. Mid-April into May is the window. Any earlier and you have traded one problem for another to get a clean drive three weeks sooner.
Wind decides the day out here more often than temperature does. On open ground up past the reservoirs, a fifteen-mile-an-hour breeze carries cleaning solution onto cars, glass and whatever your neighbor has parked outside, and a soft wash needs that solution sitting on the wall rather than blowing off it. So we move house washes when it is gusting. A driveway we can still run. A wall we will reschedule.
