Late April into May is the useful slot for concrete. On light-colored slabs the winter salt film is close to invisible until it comes off, which is why so many people out here believe their drive is already clean, and clearing it before another season of freeze-thaw is preventive rather than cosmetic. Wait until nights stay above freezing. A saturated slab that refreezes overnight loses surface it does not grow back.
If you are having a patio sealed, wash it well ahead rather than the week before. Sealer needs dry concrete, and a slab that has been soaked wants several dry days to release water out of its pore structure. Seal over trapped moisture and the finish clouds white.
